
RCB Releases Statement After Bengaluru Stampede Claims 11 Lives During Victory Parade

What began as a joyous celebration to mark Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title took a tragic turn on Tuesday. The event, held at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, drew massive crowds eager to witness the team’s victory parade and felicitation ceremony.
However, overcrowding and poor crowd control led to a deadly stampede that claimed 11 lives and left several injured.
RCB Responds with Condolences and Concern
Royal Challengers Bengaluru released a statement acknowledging the tragedy and offering condolences.
“We are deeply anguished by the unfortunate incidents that have come to light through media reports regarding public gatherings all over Bengaluru in anticipation of the team’s arrival this afternoon. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance to us. RCB mourns the tragic loss of lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Immediately upon being made aware of the situation, we promptly amended our program, and followed, the guidance and advice of the local administration. We urge all our supporters to please stay safe,” the statement read.

Prime Minister and BCCI Express Grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the stampede, describing the incident as “absolutely heartrending.”
He extended his condolences to the grieving families and wished those injured a swift recovery.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also voiced his distress over the tragic event.
“It is very unfortunate. This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for their cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. I wish early recovery of the injured,” he told PTI.
Need for Better Planning Highlighted
Saikia stressed the importance of thorough planning and safety protocols during events of such magnitude.
“When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere,” he said.
